André Stipp

My name is André Stipp, and I reside in Cape Town, South Africa.

My photography journey started at the beginning of 2015 when I met a 5-star club photographer who was willing to teach me. I successfully  completed a 2-day course which concentrated on the ISO, F-stop, and shutter speed triangle.

Having completed the course, I joined TPS (Tygerberg Photographic Society), Cape Town, South Africa. At the time, it was the strongest club in the Western Province, with brilliant photographers. The club performed exceptionally well in national competitions, which consisted of more than 130 clubs, nationwide.

“I soon realized I had a knack for this new passion because I saw things differently.”

The basics of Photoshop was tutored to me by my mentor and good friend, Desmond Labuschagne. He is a Nikon shooter, hence my decision to use the same brand to date.

I took part in monthly club competitions, joined the PSSA (Photographic Society of South Africa), and entered national competitions, as well as international competitions via the PSSA.

  • Represented PSSA (RSA) in 2 international competitions
  • Received the PSSA award for best photo of the year (2022/23) in the PDI section of SA salons.

In the international salon in 2022, I received a “Blue Ribbon” award (Honourable mention) in the “landscape” category.

I strongly believe that good photography consists of established photographic building blocks rather than the excessive use of computer-driven software.
